Hardware

  • When connecting my PC*MILER Navigator 450 to the PC in USB mode it asks to format the GPS unit, What should I do?
  • If you are using Windows XP or Vista, and your computer says the disk is not formatted and asks you if you want to format it now, do NOT click yes to format. Instead please click on the following link to update your computer to recognize the device.

  • Why won't my unit turn on?
  • The power button must be held down for 3 seconds for the unit to turn on. Typically the problem when a unit will not turn on is that it is locked. Check the lock/unlock switch on the right side of the device. It must be in the unlocked position. If that is not the problem, check the power. Does the battery need to be charged? When connected to the power cord does the charging light come on? If the unit still does not turn on, press the reset button on the back of the unit.
  • My device is stuck on a blank screen with a "+" sign.
  • This is the calibration screen. Using the stylus (stored in the bottom of device), please touch the exact middle of the "+" It will move to the top left of the screen, again, please touch the exact middle of the "+" sign with the stylus. Keep following the "+" sign and touching the center of it, until the screen reads "ok." Then just tap anywhere on the screen, and your device should be calibrated.
  • Why does my unit sometimes make a popping or static like noise?
  • The popping/static noise comes from interference with cell phones. It does not impact the unit or its performance. If the occasional noise is bothersome, either turn the cell phone off or move the unit further away from the phone.
  • What is the SD card slot for?
  • You can use the SD card slot to load music, video, photo or e-book files (PC*MILER Navigator 430 only).

    7. You can now hit "Navigation" and it should launch the software.
  • Why am I unable to get a GPS signal or fix?
  • The very first time you use the navigator, it can take up to 10 minutes to initialize the GPS. After the first time, GPS reception should start within 1 minute of turning on the device. If the navigation device has been switched off for more than 1 week, the next initialization can take up to 5 minutes. For the GPS to properly receive satellite data it needs a clear view of the sky. The most common limitations to receiving GPS signals are urban canyons, tunnels and metallic surfaces. Most of the time, this is not an issue. If you are experiencing difficulty, place your unit near the rearview mirror.

Mapping / Routing

  • Missing addresses or streets
  • CoPilot incorporates maps from our data providers, the acknowledged leaders in maps for Satellite Navigation Systems. We do use the most current version of the maps that we can, taking into account the time it takes to test the maps and release to market. However you may find that very new road systems are not contained within the data and can take upwards of a year before they reach each satellite navigation product.

If you do notice a road, address or postcode that is not in the maps or an error with the information, you can report this directly to our mapping provider by clicking the link below.

Please Select "Settings" and then the "Nav Setup" icon. Now, uncheck the box next to "Navigation Auto run at Power On." • Estimated Time of Arrival's are inaccurate
  • Estimated Time of Arrival's are based on a number of factors including the road speeds, the roads you are driving and the routing profile you have configured. Estimated Time of Arrival's are an estimate. If you get stuck in traffic or are slow moving we cannot foresee what delays may be ahead of you. Estimated Time of Arrival's are updated from your current position to your destination based on no other delays.

  • What is the difference between searching for a POI nearby and searching for a POI near a destination?
  • POI nearby searches for destinations located within a given radius of your current location. This feature is useful for locating destinations such the next gas station or closest hospital. POI near a destination searches for destinations located within a given radius of a specified location. This feature is helpful for planning trips and does not require satellite reception.
